My Husband

8 Hours in the car with 3 kids…

Each year we trade off on vacations.

Like one year we will do a small adult trip ( like Austin )  and a big kids trip ( Like Alabama ) so last year was the kids trip so this year it’s Mom & Dads big trip turn!

So this year we decided to tag team with a few friends and head on down to Port Aransas for a mini beach vacation Texas Style!

The drive down there seemed longer than driving to Alabama for some reason, I am pretty sure its because Texas is sooooooo big that you never get out of it when you are not trying to get out of it, if that makes sense… so there was no change in scenery… you knew you were still in Texas. The kids were not to bad the drive there or back, it’s crazy when they get older… no one shits their pants, has to pee to bad where they cant hold it, pukes or cries for no reason for an hour… Ahh how I do NOT miss the toddler days 🙂

The quaint house that we stayed in called the Church Street Cottage  was just perfect for everything we needed!

It was close enough to restaurants to walk, close enough to the beach to drive… I mean I guess you could have walked to the beach buttttt…. have we met?

I saw a bunch of people actually renting golf carts and driving pretty much the whole island with them.

We spent the majority of our five days doing pretty much nothing and loving it! We had two full beach days, one we had to cut short because of course…. Lillian got strep throat from church camp.. so that was fun. But Thankfully I have the best pediatrician in all the land Dr Dalton so he called in some antibiotics and so she was pretty much good the whole trip, all besides the one day she wasn’t.  The other beach day we stayed until everyone was fried… Luckily the babes are 1/2 Italian so fried is only for one day and then they turn that pretty golden brown… They always have contest but Sister ALWAYS wins…

Beach days are my favorite especially when my family is with me.

sand, ocean, country music, good ole’ captain & coke

Makes for a pretty amazing day.

Remember we are at a beach town and I hate sea food… so I was pretty full with cheese burgers and hush puppies… for five days. ( hahahaha) While Gaige and The Husband ate sea food pretty much three meals a day… and Gaige wanted to go by his favorite restaurant Castaways   to see if he could get an all you can eat fish and shrimp to go, I quickly told him he was crazy…

The husband took Gaige on his first charter fishing trip, and he LOVED it! He also  caught 4 trout and fed us the next night with what he caught!

4th of July was spent on the beach as well, then that night we went to Leah’s Step Dads dock and sat on a HUGE boat and watched a terrific fire works display! They had a HUGE spread of food as well as music.

It was perfect.

Oh and The husband in his Man Onsie…. got in the Port A newspaper… *cough* attention whore *cough* hahaha

We went to all of the shops, are proud parents of two hermit crabs… and took the obligatory picture inside the sharks mouth… I HAVE to find the old one of these three in the same spot for comparison…

To say we needed this is an understatement… I think the kids played their phones only at night, not because I told them they couldn’t but just because they didn’t want to… we played Uno.. the game that never ends…. and car games.. we re set as a family.

We re set as a husband and wife..

I am a firm believer in vacations, and not just because of vacations to get away but vacations to re set.. to remember whats important, to re set as a family… to get back to the root of things.. Its SO easy to get caught up in the hustle of being home.. My family is a bit closer every vacation we take.

I hope that as hey get older we find a spot that we go to each year as a whole to re set…

Husbands, wives, dogs and grandbabies…

Okay maybe I am getting ahead of myself, but… the thought of that makes my heart swell beyond measure..

Dear Target…. can you use some lube first?

I swear every time I go in to Target I never leave without spending 100 bucks..

every. time.

July for me is totally about getting back to the basics, in which I really love and forget how much I love it.. You know kinda like making a super simple dinner like rice a roni mixed with hamburger meat and corn.. SUPER simple but every time I make it everyone eats 3 bowls and we all remember how good it is… Less thinking more action people..

I think when you get to a certain point in your life every so often one day you are in church on Sundays, planning out your meetings and making a to do list so everything goes accordingly and then bam, your writing notes on your hand listening to Joel Olstein while trying to re read what you did last week so you can throw some shit together for a meeting..

This is totally true and you know it.

With all this moving I have finally slowed down a bit to see how my life has flipped turned in to a train of super speed and I am missing all of the silly little things I should be soaking in and enjoying..

Like the way Lillian looks when she sleeps, or how creepy it is that if you look close enough her eyes are totally not shut… ( Stef does this to..)

Or that your kids are getting HUGE…. and Gaige sounds like he may have a deeper voice

I’m not ready…

And Briysen well.. I just want to kiss his cute face off…

Then there are simple things like phone calls to just say hello and ask how someone is doing, or a list to do my work off of and goals… where did my goals go? They were right at the top of my calendar and now poof! gone.. Did I hit them? Um no…. So what happened?

I got to busy.

So to make myself happy I went to Target and bought a new planner, two new notebooks one for meetings and to do’s and one to keep track of my goals.

And new pens because they make me happy..

Back to the simplicity & goal digging.

Today was my rest day for working out.. but food was on point.

The Gray….

So if anyone knows me they know that I hate the gray area of life.. but I love the color 🙂

That is where we are as of right now.

Stuck somewhere between yeah *insert so much excitement!!* we have a new house and * that one face I make that looks like that face I make* are they ever going to close on our old one so we can say yeah we have a new house..

After the beach each trip, we came home to basically haul ass and move everything out of our home of ten years in two days. Which was really okay because I have been packing for the last 5 months I think, the only things we really had to get were the big stuff & then our “have to haves”

So two “mods” later a few truck loads of ” do we really need this or want it in the new house” and 3 car loads of can we put this stuff at your house mom?? Later… we are out..

I was really concerned about moving in with my mom.. I mean I have not lived with her since I was 15 years old… and so I wasn’t sure if it was going to feel like I was at a house or like at my moms home, super weird to explain.. But all in all so far so good! I have really actually enjoyed talking to her, drinking coffee with her each morning and even going to the gym with her! She started Jenny-Craig and I have to say, she has been doing awesome which has also motivated me!

So I am back on that fit train y’all *choo choo*

I will post before and measurements when I take them.. for now I am just excited about getting back to it all again. I am trying to get the good vibes for all of it first and not think to much into it to change my mind.. hahaha

Today I also canceled my gym membership I have almost had for like 8 years… The North Park YMCA has been my home away from home forever now. It has really been an amazing gym… Like I love it.. The new house is just to far from it for me… and yes I could travel to it bc Amy totally did & still does, but think part of me is ready to go somewhere else.. try a new gym, visit a few, try some classes at a few diff places.. Because I am all about convenience and if the gym is to far that = me just not going… & we cant have all that.

I’m excited about it.

The 4th of July was pretty laxed, we all hung around the pool, cooked good food and the husband put on an aMAYESing fireworks show..  The up side of being at the rents is it’s in the country that means… fireworks in the back yard 🙂

Lillian then lost her tooth….

I am literally the WORST toothfairy of them all…

Lets Go to the beach- each

Last year we couldn’t go to the “yearly” Family vacay because of the back surgery and sitting for more than 2 hours..

This year was a tough one to but it was doable! We just had to stop every so often and let my old ass get out stretch and try to move around a bit….

Having a granny back is awesome…. *insert sarcasm*

I will say it was much better this year because the hubs talked me into renting a car, and not just any car but my beloved Beyonce’  ( yup I named her..) The Lincoln Navi. I instantly fell in love with her cooled seats and how she made me feel fancy… I need one, yes not want but need.

Now just talking the hubs in to getting me an 80,000 car is a whole different ballgame I am pretty sure I will lose on!

A girl can dream.

Other than that this was another perfect get a way with the kids.. There is just something about being all together, at the beach and the sun set and a small house, playing card game and cooking dinner.. I dont know, yes I know it all sounds like normal stuff we do at home.. but its like when we are at the beach the weight is lifted and there are no deadlines and everyone just kinda does what they want to do. With 0 pressure.

I love my family.

When you have down time like this, you realize how fast you go in life and appreciate the times that you get to finally slow down.

We rocked Ghost Crab hunting this year to! The last two times we went the boys caught over 50 and about 15 of them were HUGE crabs! The hubs has the pics on his phone I will try and add them a bit later if I can.

Maybe it helped that we were prepared this year, The hubs brought his Dewalt flashlights so the poor things had no chance of escaping… because they were blinded by the light ( and sing……..)

There was a lot of boogie boarding, sand castle building and fun being had this trip..

 And vinegar baths for sunburns……

Sister got her first braid, and she loves it..

This is 40…..

The husbands surprise party went amazing!! I told him that his mom and sister were going but when we showed up there was such an amazing turn out! Pretty much all of his best friends throughout  his life were there to celebrate his 40th birthday <3  When we walked in he gave the “whut in de hell” in his best southern charm voice..

I was over the moon happy because for one I dont keep surprises very well…. at all…. and I totally rocked this one, and he not a really “excited” person and he was over the moon happy.

His cake was AMAZING! You see he is a plumber so I thought the toilet was a great idea. Getting it was a little hard, I had two people cancel on me so a girl named Dara from Baked with Love was amazing and literally made this cake in one day notice. I will never send my business to anywhere else, customer service is everything & that cake was insanely good!

When I booked the trip to Nashville I had NOOOO idea that it was the CMA’s Fest weekend.  Now its a fest not the awards, so when the husband opened it he LOUDLY announced ” your shittin’ me…. then holler’d were going to the CMA’s baby” and I had to snicker and quietly whisper… its a fest not the awards I love you.. ha but we are still poor..

The weekend was just as awesome as we thought it would be.

I think with my job and his job at the current time we REALLY needed a get a way with no worries, no kids and no judgment. It was perfect. We did not get to see or do everything that we wanted to do, but when I tell you it was assholes to elbows there I mean it was assholes to elbows there.. I mean think the Arts Fest x 100 crazy…

I was channeling my inner Nashville with a cute headband..

One of the nights we went to a concert, they had a concert each night.. We saw Hank Jr, Eric Church, Chris Stappelton ( whom is my fave, something about a man with a raspy smokey voice gets me… every.single.time) and Carey Underwood, Clint Black ( whom looks like he smells good) .. there was another guy but he did this rap sing talk thing not sure who he was.. he sings house party?  Totally un country.. I was confused. OH Sam Hunt..

The beer there was 10…. one beer… can…. was ten bucks.

So safe to say we stayed sober at the concert.

The next night is when The Hubs got awesome..

Top ten reason why I love him so…..

The last day was a nightmare… The hubs had a HUGE bruise on his foot so it was hard for him to walk, our plane left at 3 and we had to be out of the hotel at 12 so… we went ahead and went straight to the airport, only for Texas to have bad weather and long story short 4 meals later and 3 movies.. we boarded out flight at 2am…

All in all it was a great time & Netflix is a life saver..

If that is what 40 looks like, I am not to scared of it.. I mean I’m not ready by ANY means yet hahaha but being married to a 40 year old is way better than being married to someone that is 25 🙂 *preach*
